Genie garage door

Posted by Robert McKee on September 27th, 1999 12:09 PM

My garage door remote opener does not work, the manual push button does work. I found the antenna box for the remote control devices and found that there are three wires connecting to the garage door gear box and the red wire was disconnected. I tried connecting it back to the gear box but I get a spark every time I try to connect, so does anybody know what the problem might be? I recently purchase this house and that is why I don't know the in's and out's of auto garage doors. I matched the numbers on the gear box with the numbers on the remote control antenna box, but number 3 gets the spark and I did not want to force it. There was a capacitor on the number 2 screw which was going to chasis ground but I did not feel that that was a factory installed capacitor and number 3 screw was sparking either way. Again, does anyone have a fix for this other than replacing the auto garage door it self?
