What sort of numbers are we talking here? How many dollars per month is gas going to save over electric heat?

I am in the situation where I am trying to decide if gas is going to really save me money to make it worth while in the next five years.

My girlfriend and I have just bought a house in the Seattle are. It is a 1500 sq. ft single story home built in 1969. Last month (December) the average tempurature was 41 degrees, we used 3,670 KWHs! I am trying to research what would be the best thing to do in order to cut this bill down (it is little over twice what I expected). The way I see it there are two main factors, the electric furnace (circa 1977 forced air, last serviced in 95) and the insulation. I have no idea how to determine whether we have enough insulation in the walls.

Any tips here would be much appreciated,
