Dear Steve: somehow you've gotten connected in series with a bulb of the outside lights. I wish I could e-mail a diag'. You need to connect it to a known 120v source (not a light circuit). You need to connect the feed to your opener in parallel with an outlet feed (black to black, white to white). I'm sure Dr Home has given advice on this before: His advice would be to run a circuit just for the opener. That would be good advice, but it's not always easy to run new circuits. If it look like it's going to be a lot of work, you could run it on an extension cord until you figure out what your going to do. Good luck, Brian.
