I am in the process of purchasing a new home in Baltimore, MD. During the inspection, the inspector noted that "galvanized pipe should be replaced by black pipe" for the gas lines.
I've done some reading, and looked at a couple of sites. It is not against the law in MD (the pipes are not buried), however, I wanted to get an opinion or two from some more knowledgeable people. Is this a big deal? Right now, I've listed it is an item that needs to be rectified in the contract. However, I want to understand others opinions and if this is really a big deal and thus should be a "deal breaker" (i.e. do I refuse to purchase the house unless all gas galvanized pipes are replaced by black pipe).
Anyone have specific thoughts, opinions, etc.? Thanks.
