furniture repair

Posted by reynolds6 on December 31st, 2008 03:45 PM

I have several pieces of wood furniture with a white finish that was wrapped in moving blankets. During our 600 mile move, the purple dye from the blankets rubbed into the finish of the wood. The dresser received the brunt of the damage and is completely covered with waves and spots of purple dye. I have tried a fine grit sand paper to see how deep the dye penetrated the finish to no avail. Any suggestions on how I can remove the dye? The furniture is only a couple of years old, and I don't want to (nor do I have the know-how or time) repaint the complete set.
