There are times that I will burn plain isopropyl (rubbing alcohol). Believe it or not, it burns in the same way, just not sure if it is as clean. Sounds wacky but, it does work. The water content keeps it burning and flickering just like the jel fuel. I use the old fuel cans.

Again, not sure how clean it is but, it does work as well in a pinch. Ends up being about 40 cents per can burnt.

The best deal I could find on alcohol fuel was through Spiegel. $168.00 for 48 cans.
