From when we had our carpet installed, our seams were placed at all the doorways when going from hallway into bedroom. Once you're IN the room, the seam for the carpet in the room itself is placed perpendicular to the bedroom door to the far RIGHT (if the door is closest to a left wall), or to the far LEFT (if the door is closest to a right wall.) This way, no matter where the door is, when you walk into the room, you 'step over' 1 seam (between hall and room), and DON'T walk on (or see directly) any seam in the room itself. For seams in the carpet in the hallway, ours is midway beteen 2 bedrooms. NO seam for the hall carpet is anywhere NEAR a door! Why? I'd suspect because natural or room light would make it more conspicious. The same principal would apply to placing the bedroom's seem closes to the wall FURTHERST from the door. Again, you don't want to see it when you walk in.
