usually the gfround wire at the receptacle and the switch is a bare copper ground wire, not isulsated, if wired with conventional two wire with ground sheathed electrical cable copper wire. this switch controlled outlet may have been add on by previous home owners and the old wiring was only two wire...and they went back with a another white wire to serve as the safety ground that is tied ultimately back to an earth ground rod. what you have proposed should be safe to do. good luck be very careful as always in messing with electrical circuits.
