Framing new interior wall

Posted by Zing on May 13th, 1998 11:02 PM

I'm thinking about expanding the bathroom off my master bedroom by moving the wall between the bed and bath rooms outward into the bedroom.

When framing this new wall, can I but the top runner of the framed wall up against the existing ceiling drywall and nail through it into a ceiling joist? Or, do I need to remove the ceiling drywall and secure the new wall's framing directly to the ceiling joists?
