Framing French doors and sidelights

Posted by Dan O'Brien on March 11th, 2003 03:05 PM

I plan to install french doors and two sidelights (one on each side of the doors) on the wall that exits my porch, which is a little over 13 feet long. I have a question about how to ensure that the doors and sidelights will receive enough support given tight spacing constraints. In particular, only 6 inches will seperate the each sidelight from the relevant corner, and only 6 inches will seperate the door from each sidelight. So the sill below the trimmers that frame the door and sidelights will only be about 6 inches long in four different places. The sill attaches to a concrete floor. Is there a problem with the total area of the sill that attaches to the floor being so small?
