Bryan, there's a number of ways to attack this, and it's a common problem. Replacing the entire jamb could be quite a chore, and the same thing could occur; I'd advise a different approach to repairing the existing one, and strengthening the bracket's attachment.

If the jamb is in otherwise good condition, you can fill the damaged area with automotive body filler (bondo), then re-attach the storm door closer with longer screws that will reach through the jamb and into framing. The closer can sometimes also be moved to a slightly different location.
