Foundation for the Porch

Posted by Ammunje Nayak on September 18th, 1998 07:26 AM

I have a 10 year old porch whcih is attahced to the house and sits of 6 - 4"x4" pressure treated posts.
Posts rests on concrete footings and are approx. 8" below ground level.
There are no metal plates in between the footing and the posts and not anchored in either.
Posts just rests on the footings. So far all posts burried under ground looks good.
There are no visible damage.
Question is what kind of preventive measure I should take so it lasts for long time.
Should I raise the porch and place a metal flashing in between the cement and the post?
Should I put stones around the posts, so the water does not accumulate?
or can I leave it like it is and keep on monitoring it.
I am looking forward for some suggestions.
