When it comes to painting something like paneling, I use Brunning's "Grabber Plus" primer. This is a latex adhesion primer and has wonderful properties. I recently used it in a kitchen with lots of water stains on the ceiling and food stains on the walls. I have utter confidence in this products ability to bond (this stuff sticks!!!!), but I don't hold much confidence in latex stain sealers and I was rather doubtful in this case, but the guys at the store I get this from assured me it would work. This stuff not only bonds really well to surfaces like paneling, varnish and poly, but it hold stains back too! I wash shocked to see this stuff hold back the water stains and the food stains,Plus there were areas of crayon and magic marker. Try this stuff next time!
