I've just bought a small (550 sq. ft. floor plate)1885 row house attached both side. There is a crawl space in the back third of the house and a full basement throughout the remainder of the house. The back side wall indents on one side, this section is not attached to my neighbour and is under the crawl space. The house is now totally gutted and I have removed the floor joists in the back room (kitchen). The soil is sand. The joists are in great shape (full 2' x 12') and the sill looks good (no rot). question.

I want to redo the footings along the unsupported wall under the crawl space, to avoid any further settling, once the new walls and floors go up.
How much distance should there be between the concrete posts?
How deep should the posts go, I'm thinking 4'?
What foundation should be under the posts?
What diameter should the posts be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Don.
