In reply to Floating floor verses nailed down wood flooring by D.Jump on October 25th, 2002 03:14 PM [Go to top of thread]

Floating floors are better! Floating wood floors are the same as nail down, the difference is how they go down. One is nailed and one floats, it is the same wood, so what makes the floating better? the floating contracts and expands on demand without restrictions, because it is floating says that it is fixed to it self not the house, thus making it contract and expand as one whole floor leaving no cracks between the boards. A nail down floor contracts and expands as inividual pieces or boards leaving gaps between the boards.
Some people are just old fashion and like the nail down, but the modern way is a click together floating, and as a possitive point! if it is a floating click together and you get a damaged board you can just unclick the floor to the damaged board and replace it with a new one.

Hope I helped
