A big part of the answer depends on where you are, Tom. Here in Michigan, with snow and rain, I would choose tile or sheet vinyl for the entry and kitchen. Wood and engineered wood does not like water. The warrantee on many of the engineered wood floors does not cover water damage.

The hall will probably not be subject to the same amount of water. Choose whichever you like there. With the engineered floor, you will have to change it eventually. The length of time will be determined by the quality that you buy. The higher quality engineered floors can also be refinished a few times. Whether you want to have the mess and expense of refinishing wood floors is also something to think about.
