Floor Tiling

I assume that this is over a solid floor, and possibly a ground floor. Ideally, one would remove it, if it is forming part of the damp proofing system, then you will need to apply a coat of something like Synthaproof which is a water proof 'damp course' (Far cheeper than hacking up the floor and relaying it with a poly damp membraine). If you decide to leave the 'lino' down then first apply a coat of the formentioned Synthaproof then line the floor with something like a marine ply, treated on the edges. This will not only stop any tar based products bleeding through on to your new tiles, but also give you a good even surface to work from.
