Hi when you redo a floor use a drum sander. I did the maple in my 75 year old house with one and talk about slick. Took out a black garbage bag of dust with about 400 sq feet. Took out all the imferfections. DO NOT use the orbital type. The one that is about 1 foot by 1 foot and shakes with the paper that mounts on the pads I tried it sure it'll do the job after about 5 times as long as the drum. Just learn how to use the drum and edger and you'll get it right. Remember pick up the sander before you hit the edge. Doing oak in my 100 year old house now, and the fir in the dining room. it get's quite hard after 100+ years. Russ
