floor joists

Posted by Scott on May 7th, 2003 08:43 PM

I am remodeling an old house and I need to put in a new kitchen floor (it is approx.13x13). The basement below it is kinda low and I would like to have a little more headroom down there. Just a couple of inches would make a big difference. The old ones are actually just 2 1x10" boards cobbled together and need to be completely replaced. I was wondering if I could use 2x6's or 2x8's instead of using 2x10's again if I made the spacing between them closer?
