Flat Roofs

Posted by Amit on March 4th, 2003 07:37 PM

Most of my roof is asphalt shingles. But a couple of segments of the roof are relatively flat, and these have some sort of bitumen rubber sheeting on them (no shingles). I have heard these rubber sheets are much more expensive to replace than shingles. Since my 'flat' portions are not completely flat (they have a grade of about six inches per five feet), can i just forgo the rubber sheet and replace them with shingles when I change my roof? Someone told me the grade is too small, and putting shingles would be risky since water might seep back to the plywood underneath. If there is any grade, shouldn't water just roll down the shingles? Any advice welcome. thanks
