We are in the process of building a Church with Glue lam arches from Unidilla. The 2X6 wall framed around the perimeter of the building does not have equal distance from the glue-lam. The distance of one was 1/8" and the the next was 2".
When we told the contractor that we thought the framing was off he said it was a FLOATING wall and needed to move and that's why there was different gaps.
This doesn't sound right to us and we would like you professional opinion. It seems that if there was to be space for movement then he could have left a 1/4" evenly spaced behind each glue lam. Also, the wall on the opposite side [ other half of the glue-lam arches] have only a 1/4 " gap on all of them.
Your help is welcomed,
Mike Ginese
