fixing 1 X 8 subfloor

Posted by aimee on January 15th, 2001 04:10 PM

floor questions continue...

We've got 1 X 8 planks placed diagonally over joists spanning 16" o.c. Two of the planks have significant breaks; at least 8" are broken off in two of them. (The planks aren't weak; they were broken during remodelling work.) The 1 X 8 planks now are more like 7 1/2 width. Should we purchase 10" width boards and cut them down to a true 8' width? What grade plank should we buy? And finally, do we need to use a moisture meter to insure that the boards are dry before we lay them? Thanks in advance! ~aimee
