A sinking house can be a very serious problem, and the fix is not usually cheap. No one here can give you much information about your problem until you give us more information. If you want to find a trustworthy contractor, you have several avenues of help available to you.
1. Contact your state department of licensing, or whatever agency handles contractor licensing and tracks bond claims against them.
2. Contact the BBB.
3. Ask for references.
4. Try ImproveNet (

Contractors are like lawyers and doctors. They are specialists in their area of work, and they carry a great deal of risk associated with their work. No one likes to hire any of these groups because there is a stigma associated with them, created by a few highly publicized accidents, mistakes, and scam artists. When a grocery clerk makes a mistake, no one cares, but when a contractor lawyer or doctor makes a mistake, it's front page news. Gives the rest of us a bad name.
