Jackie, I think that you may well be agonizing over nothing. Since you bought the place, it had to have been checked by your local authorities for tax valuation. The purchase process is one of the few times that they can legally come into your home without permission or a court order. If you are really concerned, you might want to have a professional inspector go over your whole house and check everything. While it does cost, the peace of mind may be worth it to you. Like any other trade, you want to do your homework on choosing an inspector.
