Fireplace stripping

Lynne: Am in the process of restoring a 1906 house. Had same problem with brickwork above mantel. Found very little that worked well, chemically. Keep in mind that if tile or bricks are porous, stains will occur if you use strong chemical strippers. You may want to try using a heat gun with brass brush. You have to watch you don't apply heat too long or paint will become sticky. Keep me advised.
