If you have Natural Gas,I would have the contractor have a gas line run into the the Fire place that is going to be built and you can add the appliance later at a much cheaper cost.
I had that project when I was Capt. of the Fire Dept that I was once a member of and we installed a gas unit into the FP instead of wood burnng or electric. Worked out real well. Good Luck.
