Finishing Time for floors

Posted by Barry J on February 9th, 2002 07:49 PM

Once again I am full of questions! We are planning on installing white pine flooring and are wondering how long we will be in a tent in the front yard while we are refinishing. We are doing about 850 square feet, nice open rooms, straight going with a vibrating sander. How long should it take to: (1) sand the unfinished flooring (it is planed) (2) apply a sealer or pre-stain (3) stain the floor (4) apply 3 maybe 4 coats of a water based varathane. I'm betting about 3 days at a decent pace but my wife is saying much more. We are first timers for this type of work but comfortable with our abilities to do a fine job. The whole project will require alot of moving out so an estimate of time and inconvenience would settle her mind a bit. ( I wouldn't mind a week in the tent) Thanks for your help
