In reply to Basement Walls:Steel vs. Wood Studs..How to Insulate by GeneF on May 28th, 2000 12:27 AM [Go to top of thread]

we are in the process of finishing our wood basement. We were wiring and removed some insulation from where ceiling meets wood walls and found the start of black mold. We have removed all of the insulation and cleaned with bleach which has removed the mold. Are concern is that if we insulate the basement and condensation happens the same way we will have mold. Since wood basements in are area (michigan) are not real popular we are unsure how to get information. What kind of insulation can we use so we don't harbor mold when we have condensation in weather changes? Can we paint our wood basement walls with anything that will seal it from creating condensation. In real cold weather our walls will actually have frost on them!! We were told by the builder that this might happen. But now that we are finishing our basement and plan to be here a long time we want to do things right!!
thank you
