figuring out treads and risers

take the hieght lets say it is 96 inches. since the common size riser is 7 inches we take 96 inches devid by 7 which gives us 13.71429 so rounded it is 14 so that is the amount of treads you will have then take 96inches devided by 14 which gives us 6.857143 on a conversion chart you will find out that it is equal 6 and 7/8 so that is your riser hieght. and your treads can be a 12x, 10x or a 8x just make sure you check for head clearence if that is a factor 6feet 8 inchs finish tread to finish ceiling to meet most codes hope this helps you
