Fiberglass Tub & Surround

Posted by Bob Z. on March 14th, 2001 03:45 PM

I have just received a 2-Peice fiberglass tub & surround. The unit comes framed together and is also joined behind the unit at a lip that surrounds the tub. I have several questions:

1) Is it at all possible to install the unit together joining them at the lip that runs behind the unit? Or, should I not worry and just secure by the exposed perimeter lip that the drywall will go over. Note: the unit fits the exact opening and stands about 6 feet tall.

2) What is the best way to cut the holes in the fiberglass for the faucet and control.

3)I was told to put some kind of mud beneath the tub? What kind & what is this for?

4) Should I use some kind of sealant between the tub & surround?

5) Any other tips would be appreciated.
