Faulty Galvanized Steel Pipe

Posted by Bill Pryor on April 29th, 2003 07:16 PM

I have had a recent problem with a water leak in a home that has galvanized steel pipe plumbing. In conversations with my homeowners insurance company it was mentioned to me about some off spec pipe that was installed in homes in the late 70's and early 80's. The pipe was bad about developing pinhole leaks, and the insurance company suggested that I investigate it. They told me that a class action lawsuit had been sucessfully made against the manufacturer.
Does anyone know about this suit or have any information on it. I don't normally perscribe BS lawsuits but the evidence suggests that the pipe is faulty with about 4 or 5 leaks found by the plumbing contractor. I grew up in homes with galvanized pipe and don't recall any such problems. This is the first house that I have owned with it, so I don't know if this is common or not.
