fan wiring for light

I assume both wires are at the bottom of the fan motor...one should be hot (black) and the other should be ground (usually white). if you are using a volt meter to measure voltage across the two wires and there is none then maybe the wire at the top of the fan that powers the black wire for the light is not hooked up...post back up with more info so we can help you better.
