Fan repair

Posted by M Craven on July 5th, 2000 06:19 AM

I have a fan that once was quiet. I bought it about 4 years ago. Paid about $40-50 for it. Now it is noisy. I have tightened the screws on it. It made it a little quieter but there still is that hum that we hear. Seems like the hum is coming from the motor of the fan.

What can I do to get rid of hum? I know I could just get a new ceiling fan(they are not cheap!!) but wonder if this is repairable. Can I oil it? Put Dw-40 in it? Maybe the base needs DW-40 or something. Instructions has nothing about that at all. Fan is fine other than too noisy to have on while sleeping. I have two other exact fans and they make very little noise.
