fan and light will not work

Mark, sounds like you need the one switch to control power to both the fan and the light! your description of your end to end circuits implies one wall switch only and then you would use the pull switch on the light and fan to control them separately. What is new about your attempted hookup-----just the fan/light? Was the switched already wired up for your previous light or fan/light and it worked before? Are there any other wires at the wall electrical box or are the white, bare copper ground, black, and red wire all that is there? are they all 4 inside the same sheath of insulation? any more wires exist at the ceiling box besides those four coming from the attic? You appear to be missing power but I would have guess that the black wire from the switch was the hot wire, do you have a volt-ohm meter to check for the presence of 110 volts across black wire and white, or red wire and white? Once you find your hot power wire, it is the one that is switched to the fan/light via the wall switch. Explain what you mean by "previous fixture was white and red" ---was the previous light fixture only wired to the white and red wires only and the same wall switch you are trying to use controlled it?
Please give us more details in order for us to be helpful! Post back up Mark.
