My husband and I own a bi-level home which is built on a slab. Our property is not entirely level and during the 14 days of rain we had end of April/early May, the water built up against the one side of the house and we ended up with a soaking wet carpet in our finished family room.

We have had several basement waterproofers come in and offer their solutions to our problem. Most recommend installing the interior french drain with sump pump. Since the room is a finished family room, I would prefer solving this problem from the outside. I have heard of external french drains, but every waterproofer that we have had come to our house doesn't do exterior drains.

Does any one have any information about exterior french drains and who does them?

I would greatly appreciate any advice you can offer.
