Experience with sander on wood floor

Posted by Kim on September 17th, 2000 01:54 PM

This weekend, after months of stripping paint off my wood floors (soft wood)I rented a drum sander and began the process of sanding the floors. There is some paint residue on about 5 % of the floor. The sander was hard to use. Heavy and did not do the job I expected it to do. Also, every two minutes of so it tripped my breaker. I was using a 10 gauge extension cord on 20 amp service (the rental store said it should work fine). Smoke also starting coming from the sander which promptly ended my weekend of sanding. Obviously, this was not the proper machine for the job. Could anyone tell me what would be the next best step? Are there different types of sanders and if so, what is the best? I am working on three rather large rooms and need something that will work quickly with the best results. Thank you in advance.
