Excessive Heating Oil Use?

Posted by sjazz on January 14th, 2003 12:24 PM

Back to my new construction. We FINALLY had the electric company hook us up with power on Thursday 01/09/03. Once electric was in, we fired-up the boiler (oil - hydroair). Last night, I stopped by to look at the kitchen cabinets. I went downstairs and noticed that I've gone through 1/4 tank (250gal capacity)of oil in 5 days! I'm in Mass., & I'd guess the average temp. would have been mid-30's over that span, starting near 40 and driopiing into the 20's this week.
My question, does this seem excessive, or is it normal to burn alot of fuel at first in order to bring all the walls & such up to temp?

We have an over-sized (2500sq ft) modified ranch with a landing to an unfinished (and unheated) 2nd floor/attic & an unfinished basement.
