excess moisture in house

Posted by Paul Parthun on February 7th, 1998 02:10 PM

I have a square log house with a 3 ft. crawl space underneath it. The crawl space is just black dirt. There is tongue and groove pine skirting around the outside, with some panel insulation. I have had too much moisture in my house, especially visible in the winter on my windows. (Northern Minnesota) . I recently covered the ground in my crawl space with plastic and this seems to have made a difference. I plan on increasing ventilation under the house during the summer months and adding extra panel insulation. Any other recommendations? There are heating ducts and water pipes in this crawl space and it typically stays about 50 degrees. There also is no insulation between the floor joists under my house. Should I insulate? Should I add another layer of plastic that covers the floor joists? I have a vaulted ceiling throughout the house, so I have no attic. Thanks for the feedback. Paul
