In reply to sound proofing material. what works the best by tracy smith on July 20th, 2000 04:16 PM [Go to top of thread]

My family members are very disturbed by the noise that comes through to our apartment, which is located directly above a diesel driven standby power generator when the latter turns on. The generator supplies to the whole block of apartments, and is housed in a closed room at the ground level. The noise level is very obvious and loud.
We think the noise is coming through the concrete floor (because closing or opening doors and windows makes little difference).
Is there some kind of approved and effective noise-absorbing material or application that we can use in the generator room to cut off the noise from permeating to the apartment units above?
Does anyone have a solution for this problem, bearing in mind safety concerns from the heat, fumes etc in the generator room?

Hope to hear from you soon.
