Electrical Remodeling

I will be moving into a 120 year old house shortly and the electrical distribution needs rework. Though not knob and tube wiring, it is however old to the point that there is no third wire ground. I will be replacing the distribution panel, but short of running all new wire, does anyone know if it's OK to run a ground wire around the perimeter of a house OUTSIDE, single point ground it, and then bring the ground from the receptacle through the exterior wall to that perimeter ground.
