Electrical- House wiring revamp

Posted by Dave on July 26th, 2000 09:35 AM

Can anyone help? I have knob and tube wiring - the house is a story and a half, about 2800 square feet. The service coming into the house is updated (150 amp) but the interior wiring scares me. (I know, it's supposedly safe. I want to replace it anyway, so don't try to change my mind...) Basically, I want to start fresh from the panel. I'm guessing new wires could be snaked through the existing holes (knocking the ceramic tube insulators out.) A few holes in the walls would be tolerable, if necessary.

How much, ballpark, should I expect to pay to have sheathed electrical cable wires run, receptacles added, etc. to bring the house up to code? Any guesses/past experience on the total cost, the number of hours it should take, the cost per hour an electrician will charge ....

Thanks for your help!
