Electrical fixture hookup

Posted by T josmith on July 23rd, 2000 10:15 AM

I'm trying to change a ceiling light fixture in a home we recently purchased,
which was built in the 70's. When I removed the old fixture, the house
wiring is different than the wiring illustrated in the new fixture's
installation instructions. There are 3 white wires (which were connected to
one white wire on the old fixture), 1 red wire (connected to a black wire on
the old fixture) and 3 black wires capped off and pushed up into the outlet

I'm uncertain how to connect the new light fixture, which has a total of 4
wires to connect to the house wires - one black and one white wire is found
on each side of the back of the fixture base, plus a ground wire.
