Electical Boxes, and Leaded Drain Joints

Posted by T. Miller on August 6th, 1998 02:32 PM

On a recent basement (split-level) re-modeling show, the contractor installed horizontal boards over electrical boxes without insuring that the boxes were flush with the outer surface of the board paneling. A code violation, I believe.

Also recent show: Plumber adapted plastic drain to iron drain using oakum and lead joint. Of possible future viewer interest, there are three tools available for this job, a flat-ended yarning iron for packing oakum, and two lead packing irons for peening lead--one to pack to the outside, and one that packs to the inside, forming a v-shaped lead ring. Trivia I know!

Good work, I love the show.
