Easy Does It

In reply to installing aluminum facia by Sue C on August 13th, 2001 12:07 PM [Go to top of thread]

One has to keep in mind that the facia is only a cosmetic cover and not a structural part of the house. When I install it, I am careful not to pound the nails down solid. I also try to place the nails under or near the edge of the "D" strip so they dont show. Also, no more than 3 to 4 nails per 10 foot length. The facia I'm talking about has a locking edge that wraps around the bottom of the wood facia to keep it in place.
I also slot the nail holes to allow the aluminum to expand and contract, so the facia doesn't buckle.
Remember, if you are going to put gutters over them, they wont show anyway.
Good luck!
