dust after vacuuming

Hi Linda:
You don't mention what you were vacuuming, but a common cause for dust-after-vacuuming is that people may use a standard household vacuum to suck up very fine dust, such as dryed drywall compound sanded off of a wall. The average vacuum filter bag is too porous to hold most of this extremely fine dust (spilled flour is another one), and the vacuum just winds up redistributing the dust around the house. Big Shop-Vac style vacuum cleaners often have either a very fine porous bag or a double bag for this purpose....but I would avoid trying to make your household vacuum suck through 2 bags....too much work on the motor and you may burn it up.

Try damp dusting and see if the dust returns.
