Dumb mistake in painting a diving board

I recently had my swimming pool replastered and fixed up nice. RussieHomeBuilder decided to improve the looks of my diving board (actually a jump board if you're precise) and painted the surface with glossy rust inhibing paint. I thought it would be okay because the surface has a built in sandpaper-type surface. I made it dangerously slick with my paint. I considered sanding it some, applying a wire brush to put little circular swirls, but wondered if there might be some type of rubberized paint I might apply over top.

I would appreciate any thoughts on the easiest fix. (Please don't tell me I should have known better, I realize that now.)
