drywall installation and taping

Posted by Barbara on November 4th, 2001 03:31 PM

W e have purchased an old and have recently removed fiberboard ceiling tiles from the living and dining room ceilings. There are already furring strips in good shape spaced 12 inches apart across the lath boards in one room and over the old, failing plaster in the other. We think drywall is probably the best way to go, but we've never done this kind of work ourselves. The books make the installation sound easy enough, but we've been advised that taping is the critical step and that we should perhaps hire someone experienced to do the entire job for us. We have no idea of the cost involved (the rooms are 24 by 13, and 17 by 12). Thoughts??
