Drywall behind plaster walls

Posted by David Heyns on March 8th, 2003 11:42 AM

My house was biult in 1941 in New Jersey near Trenton. While doing work on the house I discovered that the biulders used 16" by 8' strips of gypsom board behind the plaster wall. My question is when was drywall first used, and was it first used as a backing for plaster before it was used for walls itself. It was made by the United States Gypsom Company
