I'll take a shot at your second question, Kay. You can strip the white paint off your baseboard moldings but I think that replacing the moldings would be a much cheaper and easier solution unless you have moldings that are really architecturally significant or something. You can prefinish the new molding and then just have to touch up where you cut it to length and fill the nail holes. Don't forget to cope the inside corner cuts and this will make the touch up easier also. For the metal doors, you can paint and use a faux finishing technique with gel stain to make the metal look very much like wood. I know that I have seen some metal doors painted to look like wood that fooled me.
