A.N., Don't use 1/4" drywall for ceilings, or standard walls, you will be sorry in a short period of time, use no smaller that 1/2" like jb said. A lot of drywallers use 5/8" for the strength. 1/4" will sag noticably wether it is directly on joists or layed over something.
